I’m working on my short comic now and I can’t wait to share it with you guys! If you enjoy fairy siblings, magic tattoos and monsters you’ll probably like it. I’ll post some sneaks when I got more!

Anonymous sent: Do you do commissions?

I will in the near future!

I’m trying to reteach myself to draw for fun outside of work — which is proving difficult for some reason (drawing for 8 hours is surprisingly draining)! There’s also a few things I want to draw for myself first (a comic?) before I open them up….

That being said— If anyone is interested, drop me and email at desiraesalmark@live.ca and I’ll make a little mailing list! :)

Anonymous sent: duuuude. you still draw and go on tumblr. for some reason this rly makes me happy. i remember first discovering your art on NAO oekaki... i kind of "stole" your bubble shading technique lololol but i was so obsessed with your art. that shit was my CHILDHOOD. tbh i don't even remember what i went by in those days. anywho... just a friendly reminder to keep on doin' what you're doin', cause you are AWESOME :s

Holllly crap this is such an awesome blast from the past!! Haha, thank you SO MUCH for the awesome compliments and the nostalgia. NAO was the best possible thing that could have happened to me as a kid— the community of awesome artists like you and everyone else helped me improve SO much. :D

The bubble shading technique… oh man… Here’s an example of what anon is talking about! I drew this in 2006, so I was 14??

I NEED TO TRY IT AGAIN! I totally forgot about it!

Anyway, thank you for the kind words anon! :) I hope you’re still drawing too!

I’ve got a story about urban fairies that gain their powers through the magic ink in their tattoos! A sort of photosynthesis that turns sunlight into superpowers.

I love storyboards but I miss working with colour. :’(They took down her ship… and now she’s pissed.

Anonymous sent: What do you use for your art (digital, and if you do traditional) ? I really love your art and how you draw people! :)

Aw geez, thank you so much! :D

Just last year I saved up and bought myself a fancy cintiq! It’s my baby and a lot of fun, but not at all a necessity. I use photoshop for the majority of my pictures, but my mermaid storyboard was done in sketchbook pro (which I find more convenient for storyboarding).

I do draw traditionally but I don’t upload a lot of that here… nothing special there, I use a pentel brush, some microns, copics for splashes of color. Haha, I wish I had more exciting answers! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Doing a little bit of spring cleaning on that spell book! After all, just because it’s an old spell doesn’t necessarily mean its a good one.

Anonymous sent: Just saw your mermaid storyboard and oh my gosh!! Please get into animation or comics or something, I need to see more of these lovely girls! xx

:D Aaah thank you so much!! I love animation and comics, but I’m not sure i’ll have time to whip up anything anytime soon. But maybe one day? I think it’d be a fun way to approach a comic. I’m a sucker for kid heroes and I have ideas swirling in my head.
